“I always admired HoA and the platform it gave—and has continued to give—people who probably didn’t think they had a story to share, or to those who feel like misfits in the Adventist Church. Eventually, I got involved with them and have been assisting with keeping their Instagram active—updating their Instagram stories, engaging their followers, and freshening up the aesthetics on their page. I am deeply in love with words and stories, so it’s been a privilege to help in any small way.
In our digital age, we’ve been able to share stories with thousands of people in minutes, connecting with communities both in and out of Adventism that we didn’t even know were accessible to us, and communities we didn’t know we identified with. It’s opened an avenue for Adventists to share real struggles, not just stories with redemptive endings or stories people are expecting to hear. I think that’s the most healing part about it. We’re stretching a hand to both our inside and outside communities and saying ‘Hi, I struggle with this, too. Let’s navigate this together. You’re not alone.’”
